Icom 756 Pro 3 Manual9/29/2020
A Few other hams had this same problem (could be) and that was suggested to them.I Acquired the radio from a gentleman that found it in a storage auction so I am sure it sat for a few years in there not being used.Radio is in great shape and I turned it on and inspected it when I bought it and it worked great.I have been using the radio for a at least 3 weeks without a problem.
Then all of a sudden on 80 meter I was having A conversation with a fellow ham and I noticed the scope screen was glitching out. So I reset it and when I did it just went to black lighted screen and light for s-meter works but nothing else does no volume nothing. It went to the loading screen and stopped at end but screen and everything seemed like it was going to work till it froze. I then unplugged and plugged it back in few times and black screen again with meter light on and rest of radio not working again. Then I did same by unplugging then plugging it in it turned on and everything worked again like there was no problems at all. I then shut it back off and pushed power button and black screen again and nothing works at all again but the meter light. So by killing the power off and on it will sometimes boot and work and sometimes it wont work at all. I took covers off and dont see nothing burnt or anything bad. ![]() Figured I would see if anyone had any ideas before I start running tests and get into the radio more. Once in awhile it will boot up and work but min later or 2 the scope will glitch out. Then I will go to reset and power button wont work like it hasnt been most the time. Was just hoping for pointers on someone that may of had similar symptom with their 756 pro 3 so I had a place to start. Going to start in Radio Power board and then on the display etc. All you can do now is measure voltages and see if some voltage rail is failing etc. High current DC is routed to the finals and is always on, and there should be a low voltage regulator, say 5VDC, that feeds power to the CPU all the time. ![]() If youre not, its a bad solder joint, or worse, a failing CPU. No clue on exactly what was wrong with their radios because they sent them to Icom Center in Michigan and never came back to say what they fixed. I like the feeling of fixing my radios myself even if It takes awhile.
